Work space upgrade! A new mouse pad crawling into my desk!

Nyarko Mouse Pad

Hello guys!

Today I wanna give you a quick look at my current work space at home.

Last winter I moved out into my own place so it gave me a chance to have a clean start with a lot of things, one of which was my desk. One of the biggest problems I had at home was lack of space. I collect figures as you all know but I am also and avid gamer and have hundreds of games in my collection and along with the dozens and dozens of figures made things a bit crowded.

That's one the reasons I never bought anime merchandise. It's not that I didn't like memorabilia from the shows that I watched, it's not that I didn't like having posters in my wall I just didn't have the space.

Now though, I have all the space in the world.

Nyarko Mouse Pad

With that said, I figured I would start with something actually practical.

Before, I had a glass desk that has now been replaced with a normal wooden desk. I was afraid the paint would start to strip away from my use of the mouse so I decided I would buy a mouse pad to prevent it.  What better start to buy some anime merchandise than to get one of the staples of otakudom, the boob mouse pad.

I had been mildly interested before but never found one that I liked enough. When I saw Nyarko though, I knew this was the one, this would be my mouse pad. After a couple of months of waiting for its release I finally have it in my possession.

I gotta say I am impressed, it is soft yet firm, it provides the perfect amount cushion... it actually does remind me a lot of real breasts... just a bit less warm.

New camera get! - Olympus OMD EM-5

Olympus OMD E-M5 Hello peeps, how are you enjoying your first days of spring?

If you look at the title of this post, you can probably guess how I will enjoy mine.

One of the reasons I stopped blogging for a while was my good ol' Nikon D3000. Lovely camera but I became increasingly dissatisfied with it last year. The Nikon D3000 is the entry of entry level cameras from Nikon which I bought back in 2009. As such it lacks quite a bit of features found in other more contemporary cameras.

Things like live view for example, which would cause some problems once in a while as I would need to contort my body in ways I would rather not to take low or high angle photos.

The newly lovely OMD E-M5 thankfully includes both the option of live view as well a viewfinder giving me the best of both worlds. Although I got to say getting used to an electronic viewfinder is taking me a bit of time.

Other things include better low light and high ISO performance which is great for me. Both of those made my D3000 useless in low light conditions such as inside a restaurant making it very hard to take a nice low noise picture without a tripod. One of the reasons I would much rather use my cute little Lumix LX7. Plus the M5 has a fancy 5-axis stabilization system making taking hand held shots at slow speeds more than feasible neglecting the need for a tripod most of the time.

Another reason I would constantly choose my LX7 was it's size, it really is so cute and tiny, perfect for taking out and about. Sometimes though I wish I could carry my DSLR with me but it's size made it impractical or cumbersome. While not as small the M5 is quite portable even more so with one of the pancake lens available for micro 4/3rds.

Speaking of lenses, I got the M.Zuiko Digital ED 60mm f2.8 macro. Such a nice lens, it has an equivalent focal length of 120mm, something I find super nice is I don't have to get super close to my figures as I had to with Nikon's 40mm micro that I use. I plan to buy the Olympus M.Zuiko 17mm f1.8 which is a 35mm equivalent lens as my multi purpose prime lens.

Now, why this camera out of all those out there? Allow me to show the reason with this dramatization of a conversation with Fab from Wieselhead.

That's why... I also think it looks pretty.

Project Snap_Fig

Hello, fellow internet figure loving denizens, how are you doing today?

Today I wanna do a quick shout out to this lovely project by the fellows at Sakura Doujin.

They want to publish a photo book, but not just any ol' boring photo book, a figure photo book. However, that is not all, aside from putting a lot of pretty pictures within the pages of the photo book they have another goal in mind:

They want to give a peek into the process behind creating those beautiful figure photos. Camera settings, lighting set ups, behind the scenes pictures, descriptions from the photographers, everything you need to know how a picture was taken.

I like the idea as it shows everyone how all you need is a little photography knowhow and creativity to be able take amazing figure photos. I have already submitted my pictures and so have several others. There is still a bit of time until the submission deadline, so head on over to Sakura Doujin's Project Snap_Fig page to read up on the details of the project, submission guidelines and see a mockup of the pages in the book.

Happy Miku Day!

Hello, how ya guys doing today?

Did you guys enjoy your Miku day this year?

Since I just so happened to have a free day and was taking figure pictures already, I just decided to snap some pictures of the super lovely 2013 Racing Miku.

To be honest I'm not really that much into Miku like some people. I like the occasional Vocaloid song whether from Miku herself or the other members of the Vocaloid family. Same thing for the figures, I'm the type of person that rolls their eyes at the umpteenth recolor of nendo Miku rather than squeal in delight.

However, every once in while you get a variety of creators doing interesting things with Miku. They give a unique spin to Miku with their designs, case in point this version of Racing Miku by Shimazaki Mari. This is when I nod my head and feel grateful that Miku's enduring popularity gives way to such an interesting and varied outlet for people's creativity.

While I'm not a super fan I'm glad I can take easy and enjoy the silly Miku stuff like Miku day every now and then.

Hope you had a fun Miku day too!

Sakuya plays Double Dealing Character

So, Double Dealing Character was released this past Comiket! Yay!

In order to celebrate not only that but Sakuya's glorious return as a playable character I made this short post. Also gave me an excuse to make use of this Neca figure I bought from the film Aliens. I question why non Japanese toy connoisseurs like Neca figures so much. They are ok I guess but boy is their sculpture accuracy kinda questionable. Still like it well enough though, just kinda ugly.

Anyways, fun times with my toys.
