ques Q Purple Heart - Hypersexualized young girls inside!

Every once in awhile I come across a game, a game with such an amazing and clever premise that instantly grabs my attention.

I sit and can’t help but think, how come no one thought of this before? Hyperdimension Neptunia is one such game, when I first read about it I was hoping for a localization and sure enough Nippon Ichi Software of America delivered and the game was released in English.

What premise does this game hold you might ask? The anthropomorphization of the current generation console wars. You got four different countries along with four goddesses each being a representation for one of the three current generation consoles the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360.

The fourth goddess, Purple Heart, protagonist of the game is a representation of the unreleased Neptune from Sega which would have combined the Genesis/Mega Drive and the 32x into a single console.

The countries and their ruling goddesses display traits associated to their console counterparts. For example you get Black Heart ruler of Lastation, a haughty, slightly arrogant girl who presides over a heavily industrialized country in a seemingly technological arms race against the rest. The game rolls with this and fills the game with nods to the console wars, the gaming industry and a bit of anime.

The game is filled with references ranging from things such as Pitfall to current generation stuff like Gears of Wars, then current anime like K-On! and even game developers all but in name. Sadly enough rather than being woven into the storyline of the game plays these out as optional skits featuring character conversations with each other or NPCs or as side quests.

The game gets a jump start when after a long lasting stalemate the three other goddesses gang up on Purple Heart and defeat her in order to change this stalemate.

Afterwards  she awakens to find herself with amnesia, can now hear the voice of a mysterious girl in captivity that needs rescuing that no one else can, has a flashy transformation into a more powerful form, and sets out on a quest with her newfound allies to save the world because she is an RPG protagonist and that's what they do.

The lovely Neptune is voiced by the equally lovely Rie Tanaka, who actually cosplayed as Purple Heart. She is a rather simple minded, happy go lucky, always positive, somewhat flat chested girl. Which is quite jarring when compared to after she transforms into Purple Heart who is a bustier, confident, colder, more prideful and totally not dojiko at all. I think she is a really fun character. Rie Tanaka does an excellent job when she switches between personalities, sometimes it's hard to tell it's the same person doing the voice work.

The storyline sequences are presented in a visual novel style dialogue boxes with character portraits. The illustrations are provided by the artist Tsunako whose art style I have come to like after playing the game. Interestingly enough the character portraits breathe, blink and occasionally are bouncy to add some movement to the otherwise usually static character portraits.

The actual game part though, is where thing start to get shaky. While the various descriptions and reasoning for the various dungeons that are present in the game are fairly entertaining for both storyline and side quest sequences the dungeons themselves are not. You get the same repetitive dungeons, the lay out may be different but they all share a look and feel that tend to repeat. The same can be said about the objectives it is one of four, find the exit, defeat the boss, find a specific item or defeat a certain number of an enemy type.

The game has a nice battle system where you can create your own custom combos and do fairly involved stringing of attacks between characters. However, once you find the one combo that works for you, the one combo that leads to the desired result such as switching characters or the transformations there really isn’t any need to do anything else. This results with the battles consisting of stringing the same combos over and over again.

Then you get to the true ending which requires grinding for a game mechanic that is not properly explained within the game. In my case it consisted in doing the same dungeon over and over again until I had grinded enough. I had to do this three times once for each goddess in order to recruit them and unlock the true ending and final boss.

All things considered if you can put up with the grinding it is a fun experience that gets more fun given how knowledgeable you are concerning the gaming and anime references. As much as I complained about the game to exilehero I apparently liked it enough that I bought the sequel without much thought, as well as buying this figure of Purple Heart.

Hyperdimension Neptunia is what I would consider a niche game, the type of property that I would not expect a figure from unless it was in the form of a garage kit. Happily enough for me ques Q went out to prove me wrong by releasing this rendition of Purple Heart.

I will express my biggest disappointment first, Purple Heart did not come with her fancy armor parts or weapon. Sure enough, some of the armor is not actually attached to Purple Heart and it just hovers around her but I’m sure that ques Q could have worked something out.

Well, here is one thing that I was pleased with the figure. Certain parts that should be plump are just as I would have liked after playing through the game and looking at the illustrations.

I'm a big fan of the skin tight plug suite like outfit Purple Heart and the other goddesses get after transforming, the figure reflects that nicely.

What I am happy with though is the nice sculpting of the body and the body suit. I love how the suit hugs her body at all the right places, lovely! In particular I love how it looks in her nice tushie! I suppose the way it looks reminds me a lot of a one piece swimsuit. Hmm... I do wonder why it has her name on it.

Overall this figure is quite decent if only a bit boring. However, once you start to look closer you start to see some literal rough edges here and there. The painting for example while good looking from afar once giving a closer look in some areas does not keep with in the lines. The hair while having a nice two tone purple giving it nice highlights is literally a bit rough.

Interestedly enough, her hair adornment holding her braid together can glow like in the game if you shine a light at it. Apparently ques Q though it was important enough to point it out in the box.

The base is a bit on the boring side, clear plastic circular base, can't get any more vanilla. Everyone once in a while I see people complain about bases like these, as for me as long it works and is not overly obtrusive I don't really care.

I think if I have a problem with this figure it would be the face. The expression is in par with her personality and in game apperance but it is the lack detail that dissapoints me.  I'm happy with the eyes, it follows the glowing "on symbol" form the game. There is a lack of detail in the mouth plus her nose lacks definition from some angles so it looks like she doesn't have any depending where you look from.

All things considered if you are a fan of the game or character it is a figure for you.  Some rough edges around but it is  a decent figure all around.

Perhaps a bit expensive at 7600 yen for what you get but it has apparently been on sale at several places closer to the 4500 yen mark which is easier to swallow.

Now, ques Q has had my attention lately because they figures that have shown off look very appealing to me. However, after their Yukari from Touhou and now this Purple Heart I’m unsure what to think of them. They release figures of characters I like, have a good enough quality, but it’s the prices bothers me. If their prices where some 1000 - 2500 yen cheaper depending on the figure it will just right in my opinion.

Well, that's that. Hmm.. this was more about the game than the figure. I guess I'm living up to the gamers part in Otagamers.

Selvaria Bles - Alter's Bikini Clad Commander

Hello boys and girls! Today I have a post about one of my favorite female characters, Selvaria Bles by Alter. You might know her from games like Valkyria Chronicles, or Valkyaria Chronicles 2, or Valyria... 3, well you get the idea.

As I already mention Selvaria is from the video game series Valkyria Chronicles, which is developed by SEGA, and she's a design by Raita Honjou for the games. The games are a sort of strategy/action mix that works very well and I'd highly recommend them.

You might notice that this Selvaria's face and overall style looks quite different from the older Alter Selvaria with lance and shield. It's seems to me that this is because this one is made with reference to one of Raita's sketches directly, while the other one seems to be more akin to the 3D model of her from the games. Interestingly enough the original sketch included a summer hat and beach ball. I think I would have like that better since it gives her a more summer-y and soft look, rather than the weird shower head thing. She is sculpted by Yagyuu Toshiyuki which has done number of other figures which I find very appealing. There was also a limited edition version of this figure with white bikini rather than black.

Whenever Raita draws her, her eyes become intense, serious, but melancholic almost sad as well. I think this better fits her character best. In contrast others will make her come off as simply an angry and domineering drill sergeant, which is pretty far removed from how she really is. Selvaria is a woman with a troubled past and is trying to cope with her life by doing her duty as a soldier, not an S&M queen trying to destroy the world.

I think this warm feeling was translated well into the figure, as her eyes and face are quite beautiful.

You probably already noticed but, Selvaria has enormous tits, which is not a deterring factor in the slightest. As a very nice detail, here you can see the bikini top pressing against the breast to create an indentation on the flesh.

You can also appreciate how the breast begins near the arm pit and on the upper chest and flows down on to the actual mass of the breast. On the upper part of the breast you can see that the skin has separated from the cloth, leaving behind a tense golden string that seems to barely be able to contain the weight. These details really give a sence of weight to her bosom making it feel more life-like.

Her hair is of a blueish silver color instead of the usual silver, almost white, that she is usually portrayed in. This doesn't really bother me since whenever she has her powerful Valkyria aura her hair glows with a blue outline, so this color seems natural to me. The hair is also quite soft and each strand can bend quite a bit. I don't think I saw any seam lines either, as far as figure hair goes, Selvaria's is pretty damn beautiful.

Her abdomen is actually pretty well toned, she's a soldier after all. Here you can also see her fancy belt which is supposed to be for the sheath of her sword.

It connects to that belt thing with shiny gold patterns. You can see the hole where the peg goes into. You can also see her wonderfully nice buttocks and delightfully plump legs.

The sword has been inserted.

Her sandals follow the same gold pattern on black background. You can also see the finely sculpted feet and painted toenails. She connects to the base only though the peg on the rock beneath her foot here. The base also has a little seashell which is surprisingly soft.

While she only connects with one peg the was is sculpted so that it fits almost perfectly into her lovely bottom. This and the fact that she's holding on to the shower head with her right hand makes her very stable.

Her outfit has the imperial army sigil and is in its colors. She even has a choker very similar to her battle uniform. Makes me wonder if the imperial army has an official swimsuit uniform. Hmm maybe the empire is not that bad after all.

Selvaria seems to be ready for battle even when taking time off on the beach.

She even has a backup knife just in case.

Overall I really liked this figure. I was a little hesitant that her proportions would be a little too ridiculous but once I had her with me I thought she looked good. Very darn good actually. Writing this has reminded me of just how much I liked Valkyria Chronicles and how much I liked her as well.

Till next time~

Upcoming Videogames!

Be ready to die, over and over, and over.

As you may or may not know, this blog is also about videogames! No, really, I'm not making this up. Go look at the name of the blog. Yes, it has a name. No, it's not miettechan.com. So I will talk about the games I'm anticipating for this year starting with Dark Souls.

That guy got bored.

What Is it

Dark Souls is an action-adventure type of game with some RPG elements, like leveling up your stats and such.  It is made by the creators of Demon's Souls. It is meant to be somewhat of a spiritual successor to Demon's Souls, which was infamous for it's difficulty.

Well that's a pretty image...

Why I'm anticipating it

I enjoyed it's predecessor very much, no, enjoyed is not the right word for it. There's this sense of immense pressure while playing it. You're trying not to die with all your might, and when you manage to persevere all that pressure and angst turns into this huge satisfaction. Only to get killed again right after. This combined with it's dark story and imagery is why it's predecessor is so appealing. Dark Souls, from what I've seen, is more of that mixed anxiety/satisfaction feeling, but expanded and improved.

If you're a masochist If you're up for a challenge and you can handle a game that doesn't hold your hand then you might like this as well. You might also like this if you have a sense for exploration and collection, as there's a new huge interconnected world and many armors and weapons to uncover and use. Dark souls is schedueld to be released October 4th in North america for both PS3 an Xbox 360.

Pew pewNext up is Ace Combat: Assault Horizon.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-1NFvScbOo]

What Is it

It is the next installement of Ace Combat by "Project Aces" of Bandai-Namco. It is an "arcade combat flight" game according to Wikipedia, but I think it's more of a here's-a-plane-go-shoot-down-all-those-bastards-oh-crap-I'm-out-of-missiles-now-I-gotta-use-my-crappy-Gatling-gun type of game.

New over-the-shoulder camera makes stuff more actiony

Why I'm anticipating it

I've played a couple of the Ace Combat games before. Each of them has very dramatic and engeging story-telling. You always feel very heroic as you mow down enemies, bring down evil dictators, take out super weapons and the like. Miette compares Ace Combat 5 to Gundam. I'm expecting this new installment to be as interesting as the last games. There is however very big changes to this new one. They changed writers and are basing it on the real world. They are trying to appeal to the Call of Duty demographic it seems. I don't think it's bad, but I hope they didn't change the core of what makes Ace Combat fun while doing so.

New "next gen" effects for damage and stuff.

Why you might also be interested

Ace Combat is about shooting down stuff and saving the world. If you like to save the world you might want to look into this game too. The developers also were talking about making the game more engaging by adding an over the shoulder type of camera. They were saying that, usually, in this type of game what you spend most of the time looking at is your radar so they wanted to amend that by adding it. Assault Horizon is scheduled for October 11th in North America for PS3 and Xbox 360.

COD 3

Next is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Since It's already stupidly popular I'll just skip to why I'm anticipating it.

Random war scene A

Why I'm anticipating it

COD is just plain fun to play with friends and enemies. I'm looking forward to the new guns and maps. Can't wait to shot stuff. Also, I find the story interesting. It comes out November 8th for PS3 and Xbox 360. Anyone else planning on getting this on the PS3? Let's play together!

Now for some Mario.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaiv-Br1PgE]

What Is it

Super Mario 3D Land is a new Mario installment for the 3DS.

I better get some fireworks!

Why I'm anticipating it

This game is somewhere between Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros., And Mario 3. It mixes the gameplay of Mario Galaxy with some side-scrolling levels that you would expect from old-school Mario. It also has tanooki Mario back! I'm really looking forward to how they will incorporate all these things in the final game.

Mario show's off the latest fashion

Why you might also be interested

Mario games are usually really well designed, game play wise. So this is a game for anyone really. If you like platformers, like having fun and have a 3DS handy, you'll want to check this one out. It comes out November 13th for the 3DS.

One of my all-time favorites, Zelda!

What Is it

The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword is the next Zelda game for the Wii. It uses the Wii's motion plus add-on for the wiimote. I'm a little worried of that part since game play relies on precise slashes, so I hope they tweak the controls to be just right. The art style of this one is somewhere between the more realistic style of Twilight Princess and the cell shaded one of Wind Waker, looks interesting.

Why I'm anticipating it

I've been a big fan of the Zelda series since I was a kid. I just love the sense of exploration and the colorful worlds where they are set. As far as I can tell this one is no different. The fact that that you use giant chieckens cuckoos mysetious birds to fly around makes me think this world is plenty big to explore. There's also the new item upgrade mechanic that seems interesting that I'm looking foward to.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Zm1tLH1Oks]

Why you might also be interested

Zelda is all about exploring big worlds and fighting your way though a bunch of dungeons. If you like sword fights, gadgets, and puzzles you might want to keep an eye on this game too. It comes out November 20th for the Wii.

Mario Kart!

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tqoRDHh3Gw]

What Is it

Mario Kart 7 is the next in the Mario Kart series for the 3DS, but this time it has underwater racing and air gliders! And it's in threee deeee (3D).

Why I'm anticipating it

Apart form the races and the usual stuff, what makes Mario Kart sadistic fun is the multiplayer. Whether it's shooting down your friends with a turtle shell right before they cross the finish line, using the infamous blue shell on people or just smacking them aside with a heavy character, Mario Kart has always been one fucked up entertaining game for me.

Why you might also be interested

If you have friends to torture play with this might be a game worth looking into. Mario Kart has been one of the best multiplayer or party games out there and this one seems to be coming along nicely. Friendships end December 4th on the 3DS.

That's it for this the games I'm looking forward the most this year. Does it coincide with yours? Are you looking forward to any other games?

orz I think I went a little over board this time...

... I failed horribly at not spending money. Then again it has been a couple of months since my last loot so stuff did pile up.

On the figure side I got a couple of Touhou girls.

Hopefully you still remember Aya's lovely intro with that "special report" of hers. Speaking of which that sequel I had planed is way over due by now.

After hoping to buy her for almost a year I'm overjoyed to finally own Marisa and look forward to taking several pictures featuring her like last time.

Did I mention I'm a pretty big Precure fan? While the original pair is what got me into the franchise and love those two, it's Heartcatch Precure that became my favorite show.

Heartcatch is what you get when someone goes all out when making a Precure show. I mean just look at the transformation sequence, so awesome.

That 100th post I was planning was gonna feature them but alas, a shipping delay threw that out the window. Not bother, I will just make that post in the near future.

There was a sale recently with everybody's "favorite" game retailer and picked up a few titles I wanted for a while for cheap.

Picked up a couple of NISA published RPGS.

I picked up Neptunia based solely in it's premise and pretty characters.

An anthropomorphizing of the current console wars, quirky RPG genre savvy characters, moesome girls, and a boat load of gaming references. Sadly enough this game wont blow anyone away, enjoyable for me but it does have it's share of problems.

Also picked Ar tonelico 3, I heard positive opinions about the series so I thought to give it a try.

Picked Ar tonelico 2, while not necessary I did read playing the previous Ar tonelico games would increase my enjoyment of the third. Still need to get a hold of the first.

Finally managed to find a copy of Yakuza 2, I look forward to playing it so I can finally play Yakuza 3 and 4.

Bought Breakdown an FPS, by Namco, for the original Xbox. There was probably a really interesting reason why I wanted to buy this, that reason escapes me right now.

Lastly, bought Trauma Center Second Opinion, a remake of the original on the DS. I'm hoping the Wii version has a toned difficulty as I was never able to finish the original.

On the hand held side it's all DS titles.

Bought Pokemon White, I wonder why thought. I just don't have the same drive as a kid to finish a Pokemon game anymore. Just Diamond took me four years and over 80 game play hours. Who knows how long Soul Silver will and when will I get to White.

Picked up Atelier Annie pretty much on a comment made by Radiant about it. Starfy a Kirby like platformer I been curious about for a while too.

After Persona 3 and 4 made me an Atlus fan I been wanting to play their more typical RPG experience of which Strange Journey is a perfect example. The game comes bundled in with a soundtrack CD which is pretty nice.

Got myself Sigma Star Saga from the good folks at Wayforward. A unique mix of an RPG and a shmup.

Now that I finally got a job, one of the things that I want to do is to get rid of my fansubs and replace them by their licensed releases where applicable.

To start off I went with the always awesome FLCL, the blu ray looks great.

The best for last, I splurged and bought a 3DS. If you own one and want to do a friend code exchange I would be more than happy.

I would be feeling pretty miserable at the amount of money I spend in a couple of months if it wasn't for the promise of a stable income. Yes, good thing for employment.

New year, new loot

Not a bad loot to start off this year with. To start off on the figure side I got straight front the front lines in the war against pants Miyafuji Yoshika from Strike Witches.

From the epilogue of chapter of Persona 3: FES comes Metis, Aigis' little sister. I talked about the Persona franchise a bit last year.

Finally there is the well known Asuka in her lovely test type plug suit. While not a big fan of Evangelion I still liked both Asuka and Rei, specially Asuka after her display in the movies with the finale.

Also picked up the figma version of Biri Biri that just so happens comes with a game as an extra. From what I seen the game is a decent fighting game.

On the gaming side I picked up Killer 7 from the eccentric Suda 51, the man responsible of the recent No More Heroes games on the Wii.

I picked up Nier an action RPG that was released last year that has become a cult hit. I been hearing good feedback about the game from various sources so I thought to pick it up when I saw it on sale for a mere $15.

Ghost Trick is a game I had been looking forward for a while, after all it comes from the people responsible for the popular Ace Attorney series. Interesting game play mechanics, full of style and clever dialogue just as the afformentioned Ace Attorney games and I was sold on it.

I talked about the Valkyria Chronicle pins I got as a prize from Radiant already.

The last item is a mouse pad featuring Biri Biri and Kuroko, I must say though, I'm a bit disappointed. This mouse pad is way smaller than I thought it would be and also way thinner than I thought it would be. 1mm, that's how thick it is. Doesn't feel like a mouse pad at all.

There you have it, the first loot to start off 2011's loots.
