Mikuru's close encounter part II

For those few people that wondered what ever happened to Mikuru after her close encounter, here you go.

A continuation from last year's Halloween post.

Soooo, I totally wanted to make this post for Halloween but here we are almost a month later.

Actually would have done this sooner but really wanted the original Giger Aliern revoltech, wanted that facehugger a lot. However, for some reason the price on that revoltech shot up really high, going for as much as $120+ USD, a price that is too much for a single revoltech in my opinion. I wonder why, wonder if it was because Prometheus got released or something. Nevertheless I was able to acquire it second hand from AmiAmi for pretty much retail price, sure makes me happy I lost all those auctions.

I totally did not document the lighting set up I used for the first part I did last year, so I had some mishaps trying to recreate something similar I was happy with. That's why this time I documented right away so I wouldn't forget.  You can go take a look to see my rather unique set up for it.

Also, I broke Kyon's camera holding hand, that makes me very sad.

Well then until next time.

Mikuru's close encounter!

Who is up for some vaguely Halloween themed post? Aliens are totally scary and Halloweenish right? Did I ever mention I'm a big Aliens fan? Specifically the second movie.

They are coming out of the walls! They are coming out of the god damned walls!

Yeah... been wanting one of these since last Novemeber. Back then  I ended up choosing the Futari wa Precure girls over this guy here.

Good thing for me Revoltechs get re-releases every now and then.

I feel fulfilled now, been wanting to do this little idea for months now.

I will leave you with this gif of some test photos I took.

Happy Halloween and so forth!

A day out

A group of familiar faces, performing a familiar scene.

I always wondered, how does Biri Biri manage to not get hurt when she kicks the vending machine. I mean that has to hurt right?

Due to the recent string of vending machine vandalism the owners hired the Imouto security agency.

Ah slip, I sure hope there is nothing above.

You know it took me some effort to get over the no pants thing on Strike Witches.

"This!" Requires a serious expression apparently.

Alright who didn't see this coming? I mean, it is Miyafuji after all.

Hmm... I wonder if Mikuru is even conscious.

We are Pretty Cure!

Indeed they are.

This past year I become a really big fan of the long running Pretty Cure franchise.  In case you are not aware of it, Pretty Cure is a magical girl meta series encompassing seven shows, wiki has all the summaries if you are interested.

These two lovely ladies above are Cure White and Cure Black respectively from the original Pretty Cure show.

That show is actually available to be watched completely online thanks to Funimation over at their website. You should go check it out.

Pretty Cure surprised me, I truly expected some girly magical girl show. The usual fluffy storylines with an unwilling protagonist and so on.

I expected the battles to be more along the lines of the girls running around for a bit then finishing off the monster of the week with their finishing move, the same way every time. Something along the lines of good ol' Sailor Moon.

Boy was I wrong, these girls often take the initiative and attack first.

They kick, punch and throw their enemies around, attacking when there is an opening, not holding back at all. Once they beat the monster of the week or quirky mini boss squad member into submission then do they finish them off with their finishing move.

My friend put it best, this is not a magical girl show this is Kamen Rider with cute girls in frilly costumes.

One thing that I like, is how the shows usually have protagonists, not one but two or more.

The show wont focus on just one girl, it focuses on all of them. Gives them the spotlight both in the plot and battles. To put it simply, none of them is just a supporting role.

Going further along those lines, as all Pretty Cures are protagonists team work is a big aspect of the shows.

Take for example Cure Black and White, they can't transform or use their finishing attack alone, they need each other. The friendship and bonds that they form outside of battle in turn strengthens their prowess in battle.

This dynamic leads to what I think are the best two episodes of the show. When they go from being just Pretty Cure to becoming friends, when they clearly state that alone their power might not much but together they wont lose to anyone.

By the way, the two Precures are part of Bandai's newish line of articulated figures, S.H.Figuarts.

They are a big improvement over their previous lines of figures that had been released before.

The previous line was more than lacking in terms of quality and accuracy in appearance of the characters.

At the very least that's the impression I got from looking at Bandai's previous Cure Black and White.

As you hopefully can see in these pictures, Bandai has improved their figures. Both Cure Black and White look just as they do in the shows.

They do feel quite differently than figmas though, these S.H.Figuarts use more soft PVC instead of its more firm variant as in figmas.

I also found removing the hair pieces and faces much more trouble some than figmas. As instead of simply snapping on and off these pieces have a wedge that takes a bit of force to remove or put in.

Over all though, I am quite pleased with the quality and build of the figures and will probably buy more from this line.

After all Cure Blossom and Cure Marine from HeartCatch Pretty Cure! are scheduled to release in January.

One last thing, man, setting up the pictures for this post took a bit more work and time than I expected.

I was pretty sure it was gonna be a shorter list...

... er... I wonder if I will be able to pay all this... -_-

This list just keeps growing and growing.

Last time's list.

Eh...Sakuya got delayed until late September not fun, not fun at all.

I manged to find her available at Otacute, I never bought anything from them before. I will count this as a trial to see if I will get the future Touhou figmas from Otacute.

Stupid Play-Asia, everyone has been happily enjoying their Marisa but not me. Marisa originally had a May release but kept slipping to the next month over and over again.

Finally, it was a given a September release date, I sure hope that is the case at least I will get her together with Sakuya.

The other day I played the demo for Valkyria Chronicles 2 on the PSP, I was reminded why I liked the gameplay of the first title so much.

With Valkyria Chronicles 2's release this figure will make the perfect accompaniment to me as a fan of the series and of Selvaria. Yes, I already got my copy of Valkyria Chronicles 2.

Almost forgot, go buy Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3 and the sequel on the PSP.

Loli Haruhi still scheduled for me to get, plus it will be nice to have her when I pick up the second season of the anime when the it gets restocked in September.

Suddenly October feels a little lonely.

The more I look at her the more I like Dead Master. I do wonder, BRS figma came with the DVD of the OVA will Dead Master as well?

This Dead Master though, no matter what happens I will make sure to get her.

A really nice release to commemorate my birthday month.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned how much I liked Persona 3 and it's later incarnations P3: FES and P3P.

As a fan of Persona 3 when I learned Metis was getting the figma treatment she became a must get for me.

I was surprised when Miyafuji went up for reservation. For some reason I had this idea that she was a pack in exclusive for some game or something along those lines.

Although this is no good, I wouldn't be surprised if I bought the whole 501st crew if they get the figma treatment.

I wonder why I keep buying Haruhi figmas, this will be my fifth.  Whatever, long haired Haruhi pleases me plus the included Yuki face is pretty cool too.

I think I might end up with too many Nanoha figures. Five figures and one Dollfie and still counting.

One more couldn't hurt I suppose, specially when it has so many goodies and looks so good.

Man, I'm still surprised Alter went with Saten first for a an Index/Railgun figure. I still plan to get her and I look forward to see what comes next in this line from Alter.

To be honest Eva didn't leave a good impression on me after I watched the show and the movies. I had some issues regarding Shinji, the last episode and his role in the movies.

However, recently I read a blog article that allowed to come to terms with my issues with Eva. Now I will give Eva a second chance with the current line of movies.

Not that any of that matters, Asuka is awesome. After her recovery in the final movie and her amazing feat against the mass porduced Evas she became ingrained as the character who made the most impact on me from the show.

When I learned the BRS blu-ray had a special edition with goodies I kinda thought about getting it. When I learned it came with English subtitles it really tickled my fancy.

With the BRS figma having shipped with the DVD I do wonder with how many copies of the OVA I will end up with at the end.

Max Factory has been really nice lately, making figmas from my wishlist actual figma releases.

Although kind of a shame Biri Biri can only be bought bundled with a game, I'm still quite happy about this.

At the very least the game being an appropriate fighting game is something I can play without any knowledge of the Japanese language.

This hobby is just too much...
